KURTIS THE STOCK BOY AND BRENDA THE CHECKOUT GIRL

In a supermarket, Kurtis the stock boy, was busily working when a new voicecame over the loud speaker asking for a carry out at register 4. Kurtis wasalmost finished, and wanted to get some fresh air, and decided to answe r thecall. As he approached the check-out stand a distant smile caught his eye, thenew check-out girl was beautiful. She was an older woman (maybe 26, and he wasonly 22) and he fell in love.Later that day, after his shift was over, he waited by the punch clock to findout her name. She came into the break room, smiled softly at him, took her cardand punched out, then left. He looked at her card, BRENDA. He walked out onlyto see her start walking up the road. Next day, he waited outside as she leftthe supermarket, and offered her a ride home. He looked harmless enough, and sheaccepted. When he dropped her off, he asked if maybe he could see her again,outside of work. She simply said it wasn't possible.He pressed and she explained she had two children and she couldn't afford ababy-sitter, so he offered to pay for the baby-sitter. Reluctantly she acceptedhis offer for a date for the following Saturday. That Saturday night he arrivedat her door only to have her tell him that she was unable to go with him. Thebaby-sitter had called and canceled. To which Kurtis simply said, "Well,let's take the kids with us."She tried to explain that taking the children was not an option, but again nottaking no for an answer, he pressed. Finally Brenda, brought him inside to meether children. She had an older daughter who was just as cute as a bug, K urtisthought, then Brenda brought out her son, in a wheelchair. He was born aparaplegic with Down Syndrome.Kurtis asked Brenda, "I still don't understand why the kids can'tcome with us?" Brenda was amazed. Most men would run away from a womanwith two kids, especially if one had disabilities - just like her first husbandand father of her children had done. Kurtis was not ordinary - - - he had adifferent mindset.That evening Kurtis and Brenda loaded up the kids, went to dinner and themovies. When her son needed anything Kurtis would take care of him. When heneeded to use the restroom, he picked him up out of his wheelchair, took him andbrought him back. The kids loved Kurtis. At the end of the evening, Brendaknew this was the man she was going to marry and spend the rest of her lifewith.A year later, they were married and Kurtis adopted both of her children. Since then they have added two more kids.So what happened to Kurtis the stock boy and Brenda the check-out girl? Well,Mr. & Mrs. Kurt Warner now live in Arizona , where he is currently employedas the quarterback of the National Football League Arizona Cardinals and has hisCardinals in the hunt for a possible appearance in the Super Bowl. Is this asurprise ending or could you have guessed that he is not an ordinary person.It should be noted that he also quarterbacked t he Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. He has also been the NLF's Most Valuable Player twice and the Super Bowl's Most Valuable Player.
Kurt is also an IOWA boy and from Cedar Rapids and a graduate of Northern Iowa .

DRAFT DAY! AZ CARDINALS #1 PICK

Corner Back, just what we needed and a great pick was available. Only the 2nd corner chosen this year, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is 6 foot 1.5 inches and weighed in at 183. He comes from Tennessee State.

Strengths:Naturally athletic and very smooth...Great height with long arms and some growth potential...Very good timed speed with a burst to close...Instinctive and breaks on the ball quickly...Terrific agility...Playmaker with exceptional ball skills...Aggressive and confident...Was pretty productive at his level...Also an excellent kick returner. Weaknesses:Needs to add weight and bulk up...Not very physical and has to get stronger...Did not play against top competition...Still raw and will need to work on his technique and footwork...Struggles to shed blocks...Doesn't really offer much in run support.

ARIZONA CARDINALS 30 ATLANTA FALCONS 27

Yes, we can win a game. Even if it takes an overtime victory to beat the lowly Atlanta Falcons. With the depletion of our defense to injuries, any victory now is awesome. The Cardinals have a chance next Sunday to finish the season 8 wins and 8 losses. Nothing for most to jump up and down over, but for the Arizona Cardinals this would be their 3rd non-loosing season since moving to Arizona 19 years ago. With that in mind, you can understand how this last game is REAL important to a fan like me. Let's prove things have changed!
Next year would be great if:
1. Our franchise quarterback stays healthy and matures to success.
2. We upgrade a few positions, like defensive backs!
3. We re-sign our key player and loose none to free agency.
4. Our depth keeps the injury bug from striking so hard. Understanding there will be injuries.
5. We go from the most penalized team to one of the least penalized teams. Top 5!
6. We have double digit victories.
7. We win our division.
8. We go beyond the first round of the playoffs and have a playoff victory.
9. Our 12th player helps us win every home game.
10. We do what no Arizona Cardinals team has done before!

Has this year been fun watching the play of Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald? The first half of the season our defense was awesome. Ken, get this team healthy, add some depth, get us a shut down corner and a partner for Adrian Wilson, get Neil Rackers a shrink, re-sign our good players, get some great draft picks and continue to be a GREAT COACH. This team has so much talent, I want to see them succeed before they get old or move on to success with other teams. I have been saying all year 2008 would be our year, I meant in the playoffs. Now I understand I must have meant the 2008 regular season! We shall see, ANY GIVEN SUNDAY!

Like Father, Like Son

Look at my boy walking in my foot steps. ARIZONA CARDINALS FAN! Yes! Hopefully his experience as a fan will be better than the last 18 years I have experienced. But that is just it, why you are a fan. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, you are a fan. B.S. I want them to win, I am sick of losing. However, even with losses, I am still a fan.

Arizona Cardinals 34 St Louis Rams 31

Well it was not a pretty game. We lost Matt Leinart with a broken collar bone and he may be out the rest of the season. BUT, we won and for now are leading the NFC West. I am bummed about the loss of Matt, but am feeling great with a winning record at 3 Wins and 2 Losses. Next week is the Carolina Pathers. They are not playing as expected prior to the season opening. It would be great to continue unbeaten this year in Glendale on the home turf. PROTECT THE NEST. As they say at Cardinal games.
I thought it was funny the way the annoucers were bagging on Rod Hood. I think the quote was, "he can't cover anyone." Then he comes up with not one but two interceptions to seal the fate of this game. Congratulations to Rod Hood! Let's now pick up the coverage!
I didn't write about last weeks game. I have to tell you, the home crowd is loud! We had a blast at the game. Well, when you win it is always fun. Even the ugly win over the Rams was fun.
Let's see what Kurt Warner can do as a starter.
Last week was crazy with all the Steeler fans. The chanting and high fiving before the game. The Cardinal fans were quietly going their way to watch. We have been burned for so many years, the swagger is not there yet. I hope to get a few more wins and see the swagger begin to shape!

September 23, 2007 Arizona Cardinals 23 Baltimore Ravens 26

Yes, the Arizona Cardinals blow a chance to win on the road. It was quite a game. Our defense could not stop them in the first half while our offense did nothing in the first half. Matt Linart looked pretty bad. Then Kurt Warner came in with the no-huddle offense. Kurt moved the ball right down the field to score a field goal. It was shocking to watch Kurt work. He was just a pro and seemed to find open reciever after open reciever. I was loving it. However, they did not finish. We lost. There were some close calls that went against us, but we need to put a team away. We can't put ourselves in a position for the refs to take the game from us. We need to finish strong in the 4th quarter and WIN.
Next week is the unbeaten Pitsburg Steelers. Big Ben is coming to town. How will we rspond. Will we PROTECT THE NEST? Or willl we be 1 and 3 after Sunday. That is why they play, any given Sunday any team can win. This week let it be The Arizona Cardinals!

Arizona Cardinals 23 Seattle Seachickens 20

Wow what a game! The cardinals came out and looked great through most of the first half. Matt Lienart was connecting with his receivers, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, and Edgerin James continued his ground attack. He ended the game with 128 yards of rushing, which is awesome. One of my favorite plays was 3rd and one on the Seattle 30 yard line. Because we have a running game we were able to take advantage of it to score. But not by running the ball. We lined up in a run formation and Leonard Pope, the 6 foot 7 tight end, snuck through on a play action pass. Leonard went 30 yards untouched for a touch down.
The defense held Seattle for most of the first half. It was disappointing how Seattle drove down the field just before the half and scored for the first time making the score 17 - 7. That score did not represent how much we dominated that team both on offense and defense. The offensive line was stellar. We had 2 rookies and second year Duece Lutui along with 2 veterans for our starting line. They were impressive and the difference. One of the rookies, center Lyle Sendlein, graduated from Chaparral High School. That's my alma mater.
The second half was a little different. Matt Lienart started off good and then the interception, which led to a touch down. Then Matt looked a little shaky, he was throwing the ball in the dirt, we had a false start and Matt tripped and thus a punt. This is where the game got scary. Seattle is up by 3, then we tie the game at 20. Now late in the 4th quarter and Seattle is driving. Time is running out. It is first and 5 at the 36 with under 2 minutes to go, Hasselbeck muffs hand off to Shawn Alexander, Cards linebacker Hayes forces fumble, Darnel Dockett recovers at the 44. We drive down and Neil Rackers kicks the winning field goal as time expires! What an AWESOME game. Really we showed strong defense, good special teams plays and an offense that could both run the ball and pass the ball. We were firing on all cylinders.
In listening to the players interviews I was shocked and impressed to hear what happened. Because the CROWD, the 12th man, was so loud; Shawn Alexander thought Matt Hasselbeck had audibled out of the play. There was just enough confusion for Gerald Hayes to get in and cause the fumble. So, I ask you all this basic question: How many games in the past would we have won with more crowd support in a REAL NFL stadium?
